Vamshavruksha Certificate Download 2026: Step by Step with Your RD Number

Short answer: you do not need to log in to download a vamshavruksha (family tree) certificate. Open the official Nadakacheri status page at ajsk.karnataka.gov.in/NK_Status, enter your acknowledgement number (it usually starts with RD) or verify your mobile number with OTP, choose the service, and check the status. Once the status shows the certificate as approved, use the download option, or tap “Resend the Certificate/Endorsement Download link via SMS” to get the link on your registered mobile.
What Is a Vamshavruksha Certificate?
A vamshavruksha certificate, officially called the family tree attestation certificate, is issued by the Karnataka Revenue Department through the Nadakacheri (Atalji Janasnehi Kendra) system. It records the members of a family and how they are related, verified by revenue officials. It is not a will and it does not decide who owns what. It is proof of relationships that other offices rely on.
You will usually be asked for it for:

- Updating the RTC (pahani) and mutation in Bhoomi for agricultural land.
- Family pension, PF, gratuity and bank claims after a death.
- Partition, release deeds and sale of inherited property.
- Supporting a legal heir certificate or succession certificate application.
Two Things Before You Download
- Your acknowledgement (RD) number. You get this when the application is submitted at a Nadakacheri, Grama One, Karnataka One or Bapuji Seva Kendra, or online. It is printed on the receipt and sent by SMS to the mobile number given in the application. Keep it safe; it is the fastest way to find your application.
- The mobile number used in the application. The status page can find applications by mobile number with an OTP, and the download link is sent to this number. If the number is no longer active, see the troubleshooting section below.
How to Download the Vamshavruksha Certificate (No Login)
- Open ajsk.karnataka.gov.in/NK_Status. The page opens in Kannada; switch to English at the top if you prefer.
- Choose how to search: Acknowledgement No (your RD number) or Mobile Number.
- If you search by mobile, enter the number, tap Send OTP, then enter and verify the OTP.
- Select the service (family tree / vamshavruksha) from the list and tap Check Status.
- Read the result. You will see the applicant name, father or husband name, address, district, taluk, hobli and village, and a table of each officer who handled the file, the date received, the date of action and remarks.
- If the certificate is approved, use the download option shown, or tap Resend the Certificate/Endorsement Download link via SMS. Open the SMS link on the same phone and save the PDF.
- Check every name, relationship and spelling before you use the PDF anywhere.
Allow pop-ups for the site in your browser. Many “nothing happens when I click download” problems are caused by a blocked pop-up.

2026 Rules: What Changed in July 2026
In July 2026 the Karnataka Revenue Department issued a single statewide guideline for family tree attestation, through a circular from the Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue Department. As reported by Prajavani and Varthabharati, the key points are:
- Online only issue: the certificate is now issued only through the online system, in digital form.
- Prescribed form plus affidavit: the applicant fills the department’s form and gives a notarised affidavit on ₹100 stamp paper.
- Aadhaar for living members: Aadhaar details of every living person named in the family tree must be entered.
- One ID for each person: for each person in the tree, including deceased members, details from one of these must be given: Aadhaar, voter ID, ration card, government social security pension record, job card, Yashaswini card, driving licence or PAN card.
- Where to apply: Nadakacheri, Grama One, Karnataka One or Bapuji Seva Kendra, or online on the citizen portal.
- Applicant: must be a Karnataka resident, and Aadhaar based eKYC is mandatory.
- Verification chain: Village Administrative Officer visits and verifies, the Revenue Inspector recommends, and the Deputy Tahsildar decides, within 14 days.
- Appeal: the Assistant Commissioner (sub-divisional officer) is the appeal authority and should decide objections within 35 days.
If you applied before July 2026, your certificate stays usable. If you are applying now, prepare the ID details for every person in the tree before you start; missing IDs for deceased members can hold up the application under the new rules.

Use clear scans. Names must match across documents; a different spelling on a ration card and an Aadhaar card is enough for the VAO to ask questions.
How to Apply (If You Have Not Applied Yet)
At a centre
- Visit your nearest Nadakacheri, Grama One, Karnataka One or Bapuji Seva Kendra with originals and copies.
- Complete the form and Aadhaar eKYC.
- Submit the affidavit and ID details, complete any payment shown at the counter, and collect the receipt with your RD number.
Online
- Go to the Nadakacheri citizen portal at nadakacheri.karnataka.gov.in and sign in with your mobile number and OTP.
- Pick the family tree attestation service, fill in the details and upload the documents.
- Complete any online payment shown and save the acknowledgement with the RD number.
Login is needed to apply online. It is not needed to check status or download.

Is the Downloaded Certificate Valid?
Yes. Under the 2026 guideline the certificate is issued in digital form, and the digitally issued copy is the certificate. Some offices want a printed copy; print it in colour and keep the PDF too. If an office doubts it, they can verify it with the issuing Nadakacheri using the certificate details. Do not edit or re-save the PDF in other software, as that can break the digital signature check.
Wrong Details, Rejection or Appeal
- Spelling or relationship error: apply for correction at the Nadakacheri with documents showing the correct details. Get it fixed before using the certificate for khata or a property transfer; a wrong family tree can hold up every later step.
- Rejected: read the reason in the remarks column. Missing ID details for a family member, a mismatch between documents, or an unclear affidavit are common reasons.
- Disagree with the decision, or someone objects: the Assistant Commissioner is the appeal authority and should decide within 35 days.
- Family dispute over who belongs in the tree: the vamshavruksha process is not the place to settle it. A succession certificate from the civil court may be the right route.

NRIs and Family Members Living Outside Karnataka
The 2026 guideline says the applicant must be a Karnataka resident with Aadhaar eKYC. In practice, when the family lives abroad or in another state, a family member resident in Karnataka usually applies, with ID details for every person in the tree. NRIs still need their own details in the tree, and documents signed abroad may need notarisation and attestation before they are accepted.
